The question of what is reality and how we perceive it is something that we, as an artistic collective, have been exploring for years, from our debut film “She who measures ” (2008), up to our newer works such as ” Planemo” ( 2016) and the VR experience “Dislocation ” (2020).
We are continuing this exploration with our new film “META” in which we explore the concept of the metaverse, reality and what is it that makes us human.
In our debut film “She Who Measures”, in which we talked about consumerism, we placed the DVD of the film as one of the products distributed by the “Evil Clown”. Doing so, we indicated that the film is also a part of the problem, being it’s self a consumer product. This time we are exploring the nature of reality and virtual existence, with the film that will also become a part of that world via “the Lokals” metaverse and NFT collection that we are developing alongside the film.
In the film, we are using an interview conducted by Google engineer Blake Lemoine and one of his colleagues with the AI LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) as the core of the film’s narrative structure, which adds a documentary element to the film.
Bozo Balov, a young artist with whom we have been collaborating for the past three years is the designer of the characters and backgrounds for the movie. His style has been praised by the OSCAR winner Alberto Mieglo (Windshield Wiper OSCAR 2022) in which he blends 3d, 2d, motion capture, and 3d scanning technology.
Ultimately, the film is questioning our own reality, suggesting it too might be nothing more than a sophisticated simulation.
